Ady & Nadège Désir celebrating their 24th wedding anniversary.

I, Ady Désir, take you Nadège ...more

Frédérique, to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part.

For a man celebrating his birthday and his twenty four years of marriage, Ady was so talkative and eloquent that evening. When all the guests were there he walked to Nadège and looked at her in the eyes and told her: "Honey, I adore you and you are my everything."

For a woman who has been married for twenty four years, Nadège was so charming, so glamorous and seductive that night. As some friends were preparing the champagne glasses, she walked to her husband and told him: "Honey, I would remarry you if I had to."

Let's be serious about something: twenty four years of marriage is an amazing accomplishment. "Ce n' est pas une petite affaire." During this period of time, I am sure that there have been many ups and downs, many challenges; but they have endured and overcame each and everyone of them. They have developed a stronger bond and a stronger marriage.

There have been plenty of good times and joyous occasions that served as the glue to keep them together. As we all know, they have two wonderful daughters, Tasha and Pascale.

So many friends joined them for the special occasion. The yard was beautifully decorated and Nadège has a magnificent garden filled with exotic flowers; there was a "magnifique bouquets de roses" in the living room table. 24 roses: une pour chaque année.

Later that evening, as the champagne was about to be served, Ady, standing next to Nadège, took the microphone. There was a moment of silence... As a comfortable breeze blew under a sky filled with glittering stars, Ady told everyone how blissfully happy he is and how he is lucky to have Nadège as a wife. He stated that they were both so joyful. He was so expressive, humorous and vivid that everyone applauded him several times (chaleureusement).

Victor Surpris and a cohort of excellent musicians (among them Alix Jacques, Jean Prophète) played several tunes. Ady and Nadège danced the first song to the watchful eyes of their friends. Then, people joined them. It was a very lovely evening.

Pikliz seizes this opportunity to wish you a very happy birthday Ady and many more years of happiness with your darling wife Nadège. May the two of you be merry for the rest of your life.

I, Nadège Frédérique, take you Ady Désir, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part.

That is the way it was twenty four years ago and that is the way it is today July 13th 2009.

Philip Guibert's "Fête de l'amitié"@ Mixed Notes Cafe.

Cette fete de l' amitie etait le rendez-vous du siecle...

Two days ago, Phillipe called me while I was finishing the details of one of my paintings to remind me about the "fête de l'amitié". We had a cordial conversation. He then asked me if I would be kind enough to take some pictures and make an album for that party. I told him it was not a problem. After the call, to say the least, I felt high like a kite. I always go to "Mixed Notes" and I like the club.

The MIXED NOTES CAFE is one if not the most popular Haitian restaurant, night club on Long Island. It stands apart with its excellent creole cuisine and its perfect ambiance. It can accommodate well over 125 people and during the summer months, expect to see several people waiting outside the club. The "MIXED NOTES CAFE" has a bar that offers excellent mixed drinks (they are good and inexpensive-seriously).Guests and patrons can relax, interact, unwind and also make new friends.

The owner, the formidable TONY RENE is always kind towards his patrons. The minute he walks in, he has a smile and a firm handshake for every one at the bar and also a tender kiss for the ladies' cheek. He is seriously committed to his guests and would go out of his way to ensure that they are having the greatest time of their lives.Occasionally, he would offer free hors d'oeuvres, buffalo wings, or a drink on the house.

Very often, there is a band playing on Saturdays. The sound system is great. Other times, there is DJ. Whether it's a band or a DJ, rest assured that you will see ladies kicking their heels on the dance floor.(I love to see that)

"La Fête de l'amitie" was a complete success. Friends from all over poured in. Some traveled hours just to have a good time. Philippe even mentioned that floks from Haiti traveled to NY just for "la fête de l' amitié".

It was a party where laughter was the "Mot d' ordre". Accolades, hugs, handshakes, kisses etc... were the mood for that "inoubliable soirée". Friends who had not seen each other for a long time were able to click glasses - and I have seen several of them exchanging phone # and email addresses.

Other people celebrated birthdays (at least 4 of them). It was a great party, if not the greatest party of all times. It was the "mother of all parties".

"Impresyon Music Band" played so well that seriously I don't think any Haitian Band can come close to them. The keyboardist Ti Victor A+....The Guitarist Lesly Champane brought us back to the real Compas of the 60's - Contrebassiste Frantz Antoine ce pa palé -Paul Edme au Tam tam faisait marcher la mesure...et surtout le trompetiste. Excuse my spelling of the creole: COTE TROMPETISTE CA SORTI....CA C' EST DU JAMAIS VU.......the Saxophonist Jacques Chancy unbelievably a great musician... Marc Frederick percussion... finally the talented Wilfred Lespinasse percussion- drums (à la batterie) and also the lead singer.... BRAVO IMPRESYON---- ET TENEZ FERME.....Gread band....I honestly wish I had a recording of you guys....you are fantastic.

See for yourself. The pictures are living proof. Phillipe & I love comments. Do not hesitate to post one. Thank you and enjoy the album

Next time you hear about "fete de l'amitie" @ the Mixed Notes cafe you know what to do....

" Une fois n'est pas coutume" ...more

the adage says but twice... I received a call from Mr. Philip Guibert for an invitation to an impromptu party that he was having Friday July 10th, 2009. Needless to say, I immediately checked my Blackberry and luckily I had no plans for that evening.

That night, I learned quite a few things about this lovely couple, Philip and Carole. They are well known as far as throwing fabulous soirees at a minute notice. I must tell you everything was impeccable, from the flowers in the yard to the bouquets on the dining room table.

There was a bar with all sort of drinks: red & white wines, vodka, rum, gin, tequila, cognac, brandy etc. For me, it was a fresh virgin pina - colada. I had quite a few of it but no one noticed "qu' a chaque fois je fesais le plein ", I loaded it discretely with rum. By 11:00 PM, I was high "like a kite".

The food: there was plenty: from hors d' oeuvres (too many to mention), cheeses, fresh fruits. People were gulping down the "Morue, harensor bien piké" to the point seriously Philip had to intervene and beg people to leave space because a "Tiaka" is coming shortly. I will not say a word about this this dish "Tiaka". This is the best food I think all the guests had in their entire life. I DARE ANYONE TO CONTRADICT THAT STATEMENT".

As far as the guests themselves, there were a lot of celebrities. Among them Philip Dupont and his lovely wife Monique, Gaby St. Louis, Adi Desir from " sonenpibien.com" and his darling wife Nadège, F. Adrien & wife Jessie, Joe Lacasse, Fréro Léon & Mario Nelson. I must stop right here. Those 2 last celebrities are considered to be EXTREMELY dangerous. If one suffers from heart ailment, please stay away. These 2 guys can cause someone to have a heart attack " a force qu' ils savent donner des blagues. They kept us laughing for an hour plus.

Finally, there were 4 musicians that need to be mentioned: with their guitars, they played all the popular songs you can imagine. Every one sang along with them also. It was great soiree and every one had a lovely time. Enjoy the pictures.

Pikliz @ Patrick & Luce Lilavois' Residence in New York

On Saturday May 30th.2 ...more

009, a group of very close friends gathered at Patrick & Luce Lilavois' home in beautiful Westbury, Long Island to celebrate a major milestone: Patrick & Maxo Lilavois' birthday & Patrick Junior's completion of his post graduate studies at SUNY Downstate in medical informatique.

Now think of this this way: I will not dare tell you how old Pat & Maxo are but I will tell you when they were born there was no Internet, no cellular phone, no BlackBerries, no flat screen TVs and of course no Pikliz to bring you these gatherings etc. They have accomplished a lot for the few years they have been living and undoubtedly have achieved quite a few good deeds.

Friends came from all over for this magnificent event; Patrick Jr's were so lovely; what I personally enjoyed the most, was listening to some of them speaking French with some old timers in their beautiful American accent.

It was such a charming party. Guests were sitting at the richly and nicely decorated tables in such an attractive and lovely back yard adorned with beautiful flowers and a manicured lawn. Not too far, there was the bar with all sort of liquors, from a Rhum Barbancourt (Réseve Spéciale) to a Courvoisier; a few yards from the bar, one could contemplate and enjoy those tasty finger licking appetizers, crudities, artistically cut fresh fruits etc.

As everyone were chatting, laughing and enjoying each others' company, Ady Desir was making sure that the sound was appropriate. Depending on the mood of the people, he knew what tune to play; occasionally he would whisper to someone: "Sonin bien.com". Well Ady, I have tried so many times to log on but....Patrick tirelessly was going to nearly each and everyone to make them feel at home. Needless to say he was a great host.

Manny Ardrouin, impeccably dressed for that occasion, had his eyes focused on everyone. Armed with his up to date digital camera he was taking the shots. That's one of the things he does best.

Around 10:00 PM, Luce (she is the greatest hostess I have ever met) made the call by ringing the bell: "La table est servie".There was several chaffing dishes filled with mouth watering Haitian food seasoned to perfection: griots - ragout & riz blanc, riz colé, poulet créole, du poisson, macaroni au gratin, Russian salad etc. There was plenty for seconds too.

At midnight, Luce Lilavois exited the kitchen holding in her hands this beautifully decorated cake with (only) a few lit candles. Everyone were singing concurrently with a song that Ady played for that very special occasion:Happy Birthday. After singing that traditional theme, the older crowd took over by singing the French version: "Bonne anniversaire" Accolades, handshakes, kisses were exchanged by so many.

People danced on a beautiful brick patio. The lighting was perfect and the weather was ideal and the stars were twinkling in the sky. Luce invited the guess to go inside one more time for "les succulents desserts".

You won't believe it: on the dining room table, covered with this gorgeous "nappe brodée", there was the traditional birthday cake, an upside down pineapple-raisins and cherries cake, a chocolate mousse cake, un blanc manger, another cake and a "pinpatate". Can you imagine. "Cela faisait le delice des palais les plus délicats. Regarder cette table faisait simplement venir l'eau à la bouche."(et puis grossir aussi).

I know everyone had a great time. The pictures are living proof. Enjoy looking at them.

Pikliz seizes this opportunity to wish a very very Happy Birthday to Patrick, Maxo and much success to Pat Jr. in his future endeavors.

The week-end ended at Carolle and Phillip Guibert's residence for a very private gathering.
