The National Minority Supplier Development Council's Annual Conference is the nation's benchmark forum on minority business development and puts minority business owners in the room where deals ar made. More than 7,000 purchasing executives, government decision-makers and minority business owners from across the country attended the event.
According to the U.S.Department of commerce, there are more than 4.1 million minority-owned businesses in the United States and this group is one of the fastest growing business segments. In oeder to expand economic opportunities and promote inclusionary business practices, the Council acts as a matchmaker between corporations and minority-owned suppliers.
"NMSDC 2007: Building the global Economy of Tomorrow Today" was the theme of the four days conference featuring a lineup of activities to match buyers from corporations, government agencies, universities, hospitals, and other major institutions with minority entrepreneurs in an atmosphere conducive to doing business.
The conference included the Business Opportunity Fair on Monday, October 29, at wich hundreds of corporations and minority business exhibited their products and services. Walk-through participants maked direct contact with the nation's major buying organizations, including Fortune 500 companies, as well as hundreds of top Asians, Black, Hispanic and Native American entrepreneurs.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, October 30 and 31, minority business owners, corporate CEOs and purchasing executives participated in plenary sessions, workshops and seminars on such topics as trends in purchasing, best practices, industry transformations, capacity building, supply chain management, and access to capital. The conference culminated in the Awards Gala to honor the Corporation, suppliers Regional Council and Minority Supplier Developpment Leader of the Year on Wednesday evening, October 31.
The conference was co-hosted by the Florida Regional Minority Business Council, one of the 39 NMSDC-affiliated councils across the country.
