Duvalier, 1971

26 Apr 1971, Port-au-Prince, Haiti --- Port-au-Prince, Haiti: One of his officers seems to be getting a point across to Jean Claude Duvalier, Haiti's new 19 year old president, on the balcony of the national palace. Duvalier is beginning to give the office a style of his own only a few days after succeeding his father, Francois "Papa Doc" Duvalier. The semiofficial newspaper <Le Nouveau Monde> reported that he would address the National Assembly on 4/29, something the elder Duvalier seldom did during his nearly 14 years of iron rule before he died last 4/21. ---
