Dictatorship always that's what killing us. These pictures are informative for our children and people who don't know about our history.
Why would you request that they be removed just because you are not a fanatique, be open minded....education is the nourishment of the mind....ignorance is what puts us where we are today.

I know you are not a Duvalierist, Cependant we cannot say there was no kidnapping. It was not commercialized as it is today. There was plenty.

We still do not know the fate of some who disappeared. We assume they are now dead. You are a lucky dude strolling through rue Montalais at these time.

We tend to invoke what was then inexcusable to villify the current.

The regime kidnapped plenty of our haitian brothers. Point final.

More than 1 million haitians moved out of Haiti during the regime. Do you know why? They were afraid of getting kidnapped and killed. The facts. Ask some of your friends.

Dear Flo, I am not a Duvalierist but someone who likes to call it like it is.When it comes to your argument about the rate of 5 gourdes for 1 US dollar, I would concede that I have no economic degree or knowledge but all I can do is remember only that it was 5 gourdes for 1 US dollar.

You claim that we must thank President Magloire who had the vision for the Peligre Dam .I agree with you. However don't you think that someone who managed to live in a mansion in Jamaica estate New York for 30 years "sans lever ni lou ni leger" with the salary of a Haitian army officer could have saved Haiti from its economics devils?

I grew up under the Duvalier regime, not once it occurred to me that I could be kidnapped and almost every night I was in rue Montalais, rue des casernes or rue pavee at 2 am and I am talking 1964, 1965, 1966.

Duvalier killed , killed and killed but guess what? Every single one of them looks like the so called leaders who have governed Haiti for the past 23 years.

All of them were fighting for freedom of speech. Look what they did with their freedom of speech."VOYE MONTE" with no direction.

All of them wanted a Haiti <riche et prospere>. 23 years after the departure of the Duvalier look how <riche et prospere > is Haiti.

Port - au - Prince is buried under its own garbage. Those in power have nothing to do with it. The garbage just came from the sky and fell on Haiti cherie dropped by Francois Duvalier.

Dear Flo, when Jean Claude Duvalier left Haiti, I had great hopes. Moun de bien allaient diriger. Look Look and look again what they did to your Haiti cherie, my Haiti cherie.,
can you begin to understand Duvalier?

The international community has given to your Haiti Cherie my Haiti cherie more than 193 000 000 dollars in the past 2 years .No one can say what happened.<Pas posem questions> Duvalier killed 50.000 Haitians. Do you know how many Haitians died , and could have been saved if these funds had been used in the right way?

My dear Flo, wake up .The people who today govern Haiti are much worse than Duvalier and I challenge you to prove me otherwise.

Remember the aeroport jet? It was built with not a cent from any foreign country and that is a fact. Francois Duvalier spent 13 plus years in power and received not a cent from any foreign country. That is a fact . In the past 23 years, do you know how much money was sent to Haiti and how those who have stolen it are still well respected in all spheres of the Haitian society?

Again, I am not here to defend Duvalier but the facts are the facts and it bothers a lot that while our Haitian brothers are eating mud cookies some are playing the same old game of Politic as usual.

We have a mentality problem in Haiti and you are part of it. I am sorry to say. We all think we can become president and only us can save Haiti. We look for the solution of the problem everywhere but where we have to. If from 1804 until today we did not have those Charles Oscars bent at becoming president perfas et nefas
maybe we would have had a softer version of Duvalier and a better Haiti. Just maybe.

People give Credits to Duvalier he doesn't deserve; They seem to think that things were better in the old days, but they do not realize that Haiti has been in an economic decline for decades, its just the rate of decline nowadays is much steeper due to the population growth.: Facts about Haiti:

    1. The exchange rate of 5 gourdes for 1 US dollar under Duvalier has nothing to do with Duvalier himself; the exchange rate was fixed by the Americans during the occupation in 1919 in order to determine how much money to loan Haiti to pay off french debts, and other claims against the Haitian government.

    2. If we had electricity 24/7 in parts of Port-au-Prince ( the province being always ignored by the executive, always), we must thank president Magloire who had the vision for the Peligre Dam to irrigate the Artibonite Valley since early 1950's.

    3. Ciment d'Haiti, a french investment and Minoterie opened up under Magloire as his administration tried in vain to attract significant foreign investments to Haiti.

    4. HASCO (Haitian American Sugar Company) has nothing to do with Duvalier; HASCO is a spinoff of the National Railroad Company that never was - start date/year 1911

    5. Certainly, Port-au-Prince is burried under its own garbage nowawadays.

The metropolitan area was not as bad as it is today but most Haitians never saw all of Port-au-Prince and its surrounding shanty towns: Pelerin, Sans Fil, St. Martin, la Saline, Fort National were always as bad under Duvalier as they are today.!Nowadays we have more bidovilles such as cite Soleil etc. Besides, the Port-au-Prince service d'hygiene was instituted by President Sudre Dartiguenave.
From an economic perspective: : You cannot do comparison across historical time and space. You can only do parallel between different administrations and regimes. Haiti has been and is in a "perpetual decline!"

It was declining under Duvalier as well as presently; it's just that the rate of decline nowadays is steeper.

It's in freefall basically. So please let's not get nostalgic about the Duvalier era and celebrate a killer responsible for the death of an estimated 50,000 thousand Haitians. Let's look at the facts with a clear mind. ( the population of Haiti was at 6million people during Duvalier era, nowadays its at 9.5million.) There has been a boom in the illicit drug trade, plus the United States has been returning planes loaded with criminals every week to Haiti.

Ps: I would like to see a dramatic reduction of the Duvalier pictures on this site, for no one would dream of spreading "Hitler's picture on the internet and make him look like a boyscout. We Haitians should do better and not celebrate a Killer of Haitian families.
