On Tuesday, July 29th, Tony Award Winner Melba Moore, Actress JoMarie Payton and JEBA Media Group, Inc., were welcomed to the City of Miramar with a reception, Proclamation, and Keys to the City.

JEBA founders Julia E. Brown and Ed Haynes were honored as a result of their success in bringing the bi-annual Urban Theatre Festival Awards to South Florida and the possibility of bringing this event to the new Miramar Cultural Center in 2010. Ms. Moore and Ms. Payton were honored as the hosts of this year’s festivities.

The Center, which includes an 800-seat Theater, a banquet facility, full-service kitchen, a botanical garden with a commissioned piece by New York Public Artist Alison Sky, and two art galleries, is scheduled for completion in the Fall.

Specially invited guest, Rachel Moscoso Denis was welcomed by Miramar Mayor Lori Moseley, Project Manager Michel Magloire, and Marketing Manager

Edna LaRoche. As a special correspondent, Ms. Denis was given additional access to the honored guests.

Following the ceremony and reception, guests were invited to tour the Cultural Center and see the splendor that will debut shortly. Programming is already underway with the Florida Sunshine Pops and Gold Coast Opera presentations of Gershwin, a Pavarotti Tribute, AIDA, and La Boheme scheduled. Children’s entertainment is planned with the Family Fun Series which includes Cinderella, School House Rock, The Great Alphabet Adventure and Junie B. Jones. Also not to be missed--the political satire Capitol Steps and illusionists, The Spencers.
