Commissioner Michelle Spence -Jones invited all the elected officials and the movers and shakers of the Haitian American community to join the City of Miami officials at the Haitian Heritage Month Kick Off Reception as they celebrated the Grand Openning of the Little Haiti Soccer Park and the Pre Openning of the Little Haiti Cultural Complex.
The party was held Friday, May 2nd 2008 and started at 6:30 PM. It was a very well organized event, and Mrs Julie Wasghinton was the Event Planner.
Decorations and productions was from P & L Productions, Pedro Garcia , president.
Cocktail and Hors d'Oeuvres by 2 Taste Catering was served all night long and music by top Vice was entertaining a multicultural public who showed their appreciation for the Haitian Culture.
An Art Exhibit dont le titre est "Art in the Neighborhood" was presented by the Haitian Art alliance. This historic art exhibition featured local artisans who displayed their beautiful works of art.
Mayor Many Diaz as well as Commissioner Michelle Spence -Jones delivered a great speech who translated the importance of the Haitians in Miami. Now Little Haiti has his own Cultural Center. Commissioner Joe Sanchez announced the "Jumelage of the City of Miami with the town of Jacmel". Mayor Jazon of PAP,Haiti delivered his speech in creole and wich was translated by Gepsie Metellus.
Marlene Bastien was the Mistress of Ceremony she sent a lot of messages (regarding the situation of the Haitians living in Miami) to the "personnes interessees" in her presentation. She really did a good job.
Sosyete Koukouye was the principal cultural group who performed at this ceremomy.Mr Jean Mapou was there to assure the quality of the performance.
